FAQs

Who is a good candidate for facials?

Anyone looking to improve their skin health and appearance, irrespective of age, gender, or skin type, is a good candidate for facials.

The Glow Facial is suitable for teens, those undergoing oncology treatments, or anyone looking for an introductory treatment. If seeking more advanced and targeted results then booking the Brilliance, Dermaplane Glow, or Fire & Ice Facial is more appropriate.

When will I see the results of the facial and how long will they last?

There is usually an immediate improvement in the skin’s appearance right after the treatment; some people may experience slight redness or sensitivity, which usually subsides within a few hours. Results generally last up to a month, although this can vary based on individual skin types and conditions.

We recommend scheduling a facial 1 - 3 days before any special event, and a week prior for more intensive treatments, such as a chemical peel.

How do I prepare for a facial?

Removing your make-up before your appointment is optional. Avoid waxing, threading, or tanning for at least 24 hours prior to your service, and several days to a week for any at-home exfoliation treatments (AHAs, BHAs, retinols, or physical exfoliants) or excessive sun exposure. For men that have a beard, you may come as you are or shave it one or two days before your appointment for better results. However, if you usually have a clean face, shaving the day before can help avoid irritation during your facial.

Do you offer acne facials?

Absolutely! Angela has advanced training in acne management and takes a root-cause and medically-supported approach, in alignment with the American Academy of Dermatology guidelines, to assist clients in improving their acne. The Brilliance Facial is the preferred maintenance treatment for acneic skin, which includes LED phototherapy as part of the facial. She typically recommends scheduling more intensive treatments, such as chemical peels, once inflammation has been reduced with in-office treatments and proper home care. Lifestyle and nutraceutical recommendations are customary for acne-prone clients.

Do you offer oncology skincare services?

Yes. Glow Lab’s pharmacist-founder is certified in the iS Cancer Care® program. This program features products and services specifically designed to address the unique skincare concerns of those undergoing cancer treatments. Many of these formulas not only help create vibrant and healthy skin, they also address important issues such as acne, chafing, uneven complexion, burns, and scar tissue. Whether your skin has been compromised by radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or from medication, we can help your skin look and feel better.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a noninvasive skin care procedure that exfoliates the surface layers of the skin through the use of a scalpel. The process gently removes the vellus hair and dead skin to reveal a rejuvenated, brighter complexion.

We recommend the Dermaplane Glow Facial for anyone who desires this service as part of their facial treatment.

What is Nano-Infusion?

Nano-Infusion (also known as nano-needling) is a non-invasive add-on treatment used to stimulate blood circulation, hydrate the skin, soften lines, reduce scarring, and brighten the skin. Unlike micro-needling, it does not wound the skin nor draw blood, but rather creates micro pathways that allow nutrients to pass deeper into the epidermis. These micro channels will improve the skin’s capacity at absorbing nutrients by approximately 97%.

Can I receive a facial if I have had Botox or dermal fillers?

It is recommended that you do not get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), lasers, waxing, or dermaplaning for the first two weeks following dermal filler injections and 5 to 7 days after having Botox®.

Can I experience breakouts after a facial?

The deep cleansing and exfoliation of a facial can stimulate the skin and bring impurities to the surface, a process called “purging”, leading to temporary breakouts. This is a normal and temporary phenomenon that may last 4 to 6 weeks.

Should I have a facial service if I am pregnant?

Yes. Facials during pregnancy are especially important due to skin changes reflective of hormonal fluctuations and increased physical stress. Facials can help alleviate some of the symptoms ( i.e. breakout, increased redness and sensitivity) when your usual products may be off-limits. Facials can also be a wonderful relaxation and self-care tool. Most pregnant clients opt for the dermaplaning facial.
