Ultimate Winter Skincare Guide
Winter months bring cold temperatures, harsh winds, and low humidity, all of which leave our skin feeling dry and dehydrated. The loss of moisture leads to dryness, flakiness, and potentially irritation. To combat this issue, incorporating nourishing serums and creams into your skincare and remaining diligent with your home routine are crucial. In this guide, GL shares tips and select products we love (aka our Après-Ski Beauty Guide) for your best skin during winter’s harsher months, all specifically formulated to provide deep hydration, moisture-locking nourishment, and restore the skin’s natural balance.
Cleanse with Care
During the winter, it is crucial to avoid harsh cleansers and instead opt for a more gentle, hydrating cleanser instead. This will help preserve the skin’s natural oils and prevent stripping and further dehydrating the skin. Cream or oil cleansers work well as either the sole cleanser or as a first cleanse option. Also, gentle exfoliating cleansers with enzymes can reveal renewed skin that is better capable of absorbing powerful serums and other hydrating actives.
Hydrate in Layers
Moisturizing twice daily is a must during the winter. Hydration is key for healthy skin, and a moisturizer and serum formulated for your skin type will protect your skin’s moisture barrier while providing nourishing actives that beautify. Multiple serums may be applied in layers prior to the final application of moisturizer. Richer moisturizer formulas work well for mornings, and more emollient make-up foundations, as they provide extra protection from the elements. The rule of thumb is to apply serums in order of thinnest to thickest. And don’t forget those lips!
Remember the SPF
Don’t be fooled, even sun exposure in the winter months can contribute to skin damage and accelerated aging. Make sure to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or more) even during winter, and reapply as needed throughout the day.
